Become a governor for your hospital and help shape healthcare services

Nominations are now open for the Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust governor elections, with eight seats available for public governors.  

Hospital governors play a key role in driving improvements in healthcare and supporting the Trust to bring the voice of local people and communities into planning and decision-making processes. 

The Trust comprises of two acute (secondary) care hospitals across two sites in the boroughs of Warrington and Halton and provides services across several community hubs. Services are delivered by a workforce of around 5,000 staff. The Trust is part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System (ICS).

Steve McGuirk, Chair of Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals, said: “Our Council of Governors play a key role in working with our leadership teams and the Trust Board to hold us to account on behalf of local people and patients. The voice of governors is essential to ensuring the interests of members of the public are represented and have a say in the strategic direction of the Trust.

“We welcome nominations for this year’s elections from across Warrington and Halton to provide representation from all of our constituencies.”  

Being a governor provides an opportunity to be an ambassador for the Trust, to influence the future direction of your hospital and how services are developed, to share your views and to represent the interests of local communities.

The Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospital’s Council of Governors is made up of:

• 17 public governors - elected by the public members and representing the local community.
• 5 staff governors - elected by our hospital staff members.
• 6 partner governors - nominated by organisations we work closely with in Warrington and Halton.

The governor elections are now open and there are seven seats available within the Warrington and Halton constituency and one seat in the rest of England.

Eligible public members (aged 16 or over) can nominate themselves to stand for election as a governor. There are no qualifications or experience required, but nominees must be a member of Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and live within the constituency you represent.
