Audiology


General introduction

Audiology is the science of diagnosis, management and treatment of hearing, balance or ear problems. We provide a comprehensive service to adults including:

  • adult hearing assessment
  • audiological rehabilitation
  • digital hearing aid fittings
  • diagnostic audiology, for hearing / balance disorders
  • grommet review clinic
  • complex case clinic (for adult hearing aid users requiring more intensive aftercare)
  • regular joint clinics with telecare and sensory team (Warrington Borough Council)
  • hearing aid repairs and follow-up service
  • tinnitus therapy
  • diagnostic audiometry, to support Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) services
  • testing and fitting of hearing aids for children

We also provide a Newborn Hearing Screening programme, with further diagnostic testing and work closely with our local community and education services, to provide a full comprehensive children's (paediatric) hearing service.

Referral to the service

If you feel that your hearing has deteriorated and you would like your hearing checked, please contact your GP, who can refer you for a hearing assessment.

Existing patients

For patients who already have a hearing aid from us, requiring a fine-tune appointment or hearing test, please contact the department for advice on how to arrange this.

Simple hearing aid repairs, spares and advice

If you are under the care of our Audiology Department you can book an appointment with us for: 

  • information and advice on your hearing aids
  • re-tubing of hearing aid ear moulds
  • spare parts and batteries  

Appointments are available at:

  • Warrington Audiology: Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm
  • Halton Audiology: Monday to Thursday, 9am to 4pm

Complex repairs or hearing aid adjustments require an appointment at the main hospital department.

Newborn Hearing Screening

The hearing screen is usually done before leaving the maternity unit. If your baby’s hearing is not screened, the Newborn Hearing Screening Team will contact you to arrange an appointment within a few days. Clinic appointments will be held at Warrington Hospital. If you have not heard from the team please ask your health visitor, midwife, or family doctor to arrange an appointment or contact the team directly on 01925 662714.

About the team

The department consists of over 20 staff, comprising of highly experienced and specialised audiologists, assistant audiologists, newborn hearing screeners, clinical and clerical support staff.
