General introduction

Ward A5 Gastro is a 20 bed gastroenterology ward, located on the second floor of the Appleton Wing at Warrington Hospital.

The ward is designed for patients who have a variable length of stay, dependent on their admission to hospital and their recovery.

How to access this service

Ward A5 Gastro is an emergency admission unit.

Patients are admitted to the ward after visiting the Emergency Department and following a review from a doctor.

About the team

The nursing team consists of highly skilled nurses, sisters/charge nurses, a ward manager, a matron, a lead nurse and an associate chief nurse.

There are currently seven gastroenterology consultants who rotate as ‘consultant of the week’ on the ward, but are also working in clinics and endoscopy services (across both Warrington and Halton sites).
