Car parking charges and number plate recognition

Our car parks are controlled by a system that uses an automatic number plate recognition to record vehicle registrations which is transmitted to the parking pay machines. 

Machines are located in and around the main entrance areas to the hospitals and you need to input your vehicle registration number into the machine. If using the parking pay machines, you must pay on exit, as the system will hold information on how long you have been parked for. The machines accept cash, card or contactless payments. 

You can now also pay for parking at both our hospital sites using a mobile payment app. This can be downloaded from app stores and appears as ‘Trust’ on the Google Play Store and 'Trust Parking' on the App Store.

You must make payment by midnight on the day of your visit. Information about the app will be displayed on car parking signage on patient and visitor car parks at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Car parking charges

The first 40 minutes on site are free (i.e. from entering the site to leaving) and means visitors and patients are allowed to park for this initial period without making payment. This is to support visitors dropping off friends or relatives and accompanying them into the hospitals as well as patients who are visiting for quick pre-arranged tests, collecting prescriptions or making other quick visits.

The standard parking charges from April 2024 are:

  • first 40 minutes - free
  • up to 2 hours - £3.00
  • up to 4 hours - £4.00
  • up to 6 hours - £5.50
  • up to 24 hours - £6.50

For periods over 24 hours saver passes are available from the Cash Office.

All visitors (excluding blue badge holders) must pay for parking but there are a range of concessions outlined elsewhere on this page. 

Not paying for parking on exit or by midnight of the day of the visit, if using the app, could mean you are subject to receiving a parking charge notice from our parking company Group Nexus.

EV charging cost

The price is 24 pence per KW and the units are 22KW chargers. There is a maximum stay of four hours.

More parking information

Parking at Warrington Hospital

We have several visitor car parking areas at the hospital which are well sign posted at each entrance. Although the parking is much improved, if you are driving to the site please allow time to find a space as parking areas can still become very busy at key times.

Also, it is worth investigating the public transport and hospital shuttle bus options for getting to the site which may make your journey more convenient.

Locations of our patient and visitor parking areas

At Warrington Hospital there are three main patient and visitor parking areas:

  • Car Park 1 is our main car park at the front entrance to the hospital on Lovely Lane (best for visiting the main wards, outpatients and A&E)
  • Car Park 2 is a smaller car park opposite the Ophthalmology (eye) Centre near the Kendrick Wing (best for visiting Ophthalmology, MRI and the Cardio-Respiratory Department)
  • Car Park 3 is next to Croft Wing at the rear of the site near the Guardian Street entrance (best for visiting the maternity, children's and Croft Wing areas)

All patient car parks are clearly sign posted. Please note that we operate a clear one way system on the site.

We have 12 charging points on the Warrington site, which can be located in the front car park off Lovely Lane on the back row and also just before SDEC on the one way system entering from Guardian Street.

Parking at Halton Hospital

Locations of our patient and visitor parking areas

At Halton Hospital, Nightingale Building there are two main parking areas:

  • On Hospital Way before and opposite the Entrance 1 main entrance (best for the Delamere Centre and Outpatients)
  • A larger parking area opposite Entrance 2 and the Minor Injuries Unit (best for visiting the main wards)

At Halton Hospital, Captain Sir Tom Moore Building there is a parking area directly in front of the centre.

All patient car parks are clearly sign posted.

EV charger locations

We have five charging points on the Halton site, which are located near the Education Centre.

Longer term parking

If a patient is likely to be kept in any of our hospitals over 24 hours and their car is left on site, the daily charges of £6 will need to be paid to avoid receiving a fine or arrangements for a weekly saver pass can be made by speaking to the Cash Office (Warrington) or General Office (Halton) in case of emergency admissions.

Car parking concessions

We offer a range of concessions on car parking charges for regular patients and visitors who need to attend hospital over an extended period. These concessions are designed to make the costs easier for people who need regular or long term treatment.

The range of concessions we offer are:

Weekly / Monthly Saver passes

  • Patients- £10.00 a week or £30.00 a month, dependent on your visits.
  • Visitors- attending for an extended period should pay for their first 7 days parking, and then take the tickets from these sessions to the Cash Office, at which time a Weekly / Monthly Saver Pass can be purchased.

Cancer patients

Cancer patients will be issued with a concessionary permit form by the Delamere Centre and CANtreat Unit, which should then be presented at the Halton Cash Office, where a free Saver Pass will be issued. Patients attending any cancer related treatment at Warrington Hospital should present their appointment letter or treatment details at the Cash Office where your registration number will be put onto the car parking database.

Renal patients

Are eligible for free parking. This will happen automatically at Warrington. Patients at Halton will have the details endorsed by ward staff and will then be entered onto the car parking database.

End of Life care

Relatives who are currently visiting a patient who is receiving ‘End of Life’ care are eligible for free parking, and should ask the ward to contact the Cash Office to arrange this. Ward staff to endorse up to three vehicles which will then be entered onto the car parking database by the Cash Office. Please note that this doesn’t include palliative care patients.

Halton Hospital Urgent Care Centre

Patients are eligible for free parking for their visit please ensure that you provide your vehicle registration to the reception staff on booking in.

Emergencies

Patients admitted urgently who have to leave their car on site for an extended period will be eligible for a Weekly Saver Pass.

Unpaid Carers

Unpaid Carers who hold a Carer Card and have been requested by a ward to assist in patient care will be eligible for free car parking. The ward will issue a Care Concessionary Parking Permit form. This form should be taken to the Cash Office / General Office where a permit will be issued for a week and can be renewed as necessary.

Additional concessions 

Blue Badge Holders

Are eligible for free parking. Please either attend the Welcome Desk or the Cash Office on either site to complete an exemption form. If you are unable to do that, please speak to the Reception of the clinic / department / ward that you are visiting and they will do this for you. Once the badge is registered, the vehicle is then covered for parking until the expiry date of the blue badge at both sites.

Frequent OPD patients (at least three times a month)

Are eligible for free parking. Please speak to the reception.

Up to two parents/guardians on B10-B11 and Neonatal between 7pm and 7am

Are eligible for free parking. Please speak to the ward staff.

Visitors to ICU

Are eligible for free parking. Please speak to the ward staff.

Cash office locations

Warrington– opposite Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at the front of the hospital. Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm

Halton - through the main entrance to the left. Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm
